Thread Mills. Thread mills provide an alternative process for manufacturing threads where tapping may not be a viable solution. Difficult or hardened materials, extremely tight pitch diameter or dimensional tolerance, and very large diameter threads are all candidates for the thread milling process.
Thread milling produces threads with the circular ramping movement of a rotating tool. The lateral movement of the tool in one revolution creates the thread pitch. Although not as widely used as thread turning, thread milling achieves high productivity in certain applications. Thread milling should always be the application of choice when:

I guess you could go to an absolute point and then go incremental for the thread milling. If you have the thread center 0,0 then it''s easy to program. Also it makes it easy to modify the radius for adjusting the pitch diameter.
